How difficult is it to integrate Dropbox and Salesforce?

The initial setup is very simple.

Getting Dropbox and Sales Cloud connected is very basic. Even if you aren't a Salesforce Administrator, you can follow our step-by-step integration guide below and you shouldn't have a problem getting the two systems connected with basic functionality.
(Note: You will need to have Administrator privileges in both tools to complete the setup.)

The power of the integration comes from building in additional workflow automation, so you want to consider the reason you're integrating the tool before getting started. If it's simply to show Dropbox documents within Salesforce then this simple setup is fine. If you're looking to build out additional automations, work with a Salesforce Expert that can help to configure it.

Is Dropbox listed on the AppExchange?

Yes. The latest release was on October 14, 2021 so it's an updated managed package available on the AppExchange. As mentioned above, using this package will give you the basic functionality but you will still need the help of a Salesforce Administrator to build out workflows and automation rules.

Can I use Zapier to integrate Dropbox and Salesforce?

Yes. Dropbox does have a tool on Zapier, which is a logic-based integration platform that non-technical users can leverage to build out integrations. If you are familiar with Zapier, this may be an even better option than the AppExchange package, since you can use Zapier to build out some of the automations with other applications.

However, you may still want to consult a Salesforce Administrator to build out workflows and automation rules.

The step-by-step guide to integrate Salesforce and Dropbox.

Dropbox for Salesforce: Admin Setup

The Dropbox for Salesforce integration allows teams to access and share their Dropbox files within Salesforce. You must be on a Dropbox Business plan to use the Dropbox for Salesforce integration.

Step 1: Install Dropbox for Salesforce

1. Go to the Dropbox for Salesforce listing.
2. On Dropbox for Salesforce, click Get It Now.
3. Choose where you’d like to install Dropbox for Salesforce.
(Note: Installing in your production environment gives access to all your end users but installing it in a sandbox environment creates a copy of production, which you can use to test new apps before deploying them to your users.)

4. Check the box to agree to the terms and conditions, and then click Confirm and Install.
5. Click Continue.
6. On the page “Step 1. Approve Package API Access," click Next.
7. On the page “Step 2. Choose security level," select a security level, and click Next.
8. On the page “Step 3. Install Package," click Install.

Step 2: Connect and configure Salesforce to Dropbox

1. Sign in to your Salesforce Admin account
2. Select the Dropbox Options tab from the Salesforce App Launcher.
3. Click Connect to Dropbox.
(Note: You should be redirected to Dropbox; click Continue.)

If you're using Dropbox Business, you can choose to connect the rest of your team. This works by matching the email address of the Salesforce user with the user email address in your Dropbox account. If you decide not to link your team, members will be prompted to connect their Dropbox account when visiting a page in Salesforce.
This prompt will only appear once.
When prompted, instruct your users to select Create Remote Site Setting.

4. Next, configure your page layouts by selecting Update Layouts. This will add the Dropbox component to the Account, Contact, Case, Opportunity, and Lead objects page layouts.

Step 3: Share the Salesforce Documents folder

To share the Salesforce Documents folder with your team, you’ll first need to generate this folder in your Dropbox account.
1. Go to a record that has Dropbox for Salesforce enabled.
2. Click Setup.
3. Upload a file from your computer to the Dropbox for Salesforce widget via drag and drop or the Add Files button.
4. This file will upload to Dropbox, and the Salesforce Documents folder will be created in your Dropbox account.

After creating the Salesforce Documents folder, you can share it with the rest of your team:
5. Sign in to Dropbox with the same account you used to set up Dropbox for Salesforce.
Note: If you’re unsure which account is connected, click Dropbox Options. At the top of the page, under Dropbox Connection Settings, you can see who you are Connected As.

6. Click Share.
7. Enter the email addresses of the colleagues you wish to share the folder with, and then click Share.
