Salesforce Accelerates Hiring in India with plans to increase headcount 33%

Currently, Salesforce India employs 7,500 people across six cities - Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram and Jaipur.

A recent announcement from Salesforce shows plans for significant growth in the region over the next 6 months with a goal of hiring 2,500 additional employees in India by the end of January 2023. This would increase headcount in the region by 33% as they expand from 7,500 to 10,000 employees.

While this may have always been part of their ongoing expansion strategy in the region, it's worth noting that Salesforce (along with many other technology companies) announced a hiring freeze in May of 2022. As we continue to experience uncertainty in global markets with the continued fear of a recession looming, this is an interesting sequence of hiring announcements and could potentially point to a broader strategy as technology companies continue to embrace global, distributed expansion.

Given that Salesforce already had 7,500 employees in India, this has been a clear area of investment but placing an emphasis on adding 33% to that region in the span of 2 Quarters points to a broader commitment.

At the start of the pandemic in 2020, Salesforce only had 2,500 employees in India, which they grew 300% over the span of a few years.
